Bangladesh Rohingya Crisis
ExRMed response to the Rohingya crisis in Bangladesh following violence outbreaks of Myanmar
In 2017, the ExRMed deployed multiple teams to Cox's Bazar, Bangladesh to provide medical care to the Rohingya refugees arriving from Myanmar. Establishing ourselves in the Cox's Bazar area, ExRMed teams worked daily to find and treat injured refugees as they arrived in Cox's Bazar, and connect them with established medical facilities for further treatment if required. Many of the refugees were in need of urgent medical care, arriving dehydrated, malnourished, with newborn babies and gunshot or machete wounds.
Before winding down operations in 2018, ExRMed undertook a capability building project with the refugee camps, forming the Rohingya Volunteer Ambulance Network in order to enable point-of-need medical care for the refugees after ExRMed teams had left.
